Utah’s Authentic Nordic Sauna Builders
Built with non-toxic materials following time honored Nordic techniques to unlock your wellness potential
Utah’s Source for Authentic Sauna
At Nordmann Sauna, we build saunas the Nordic way: with authentic design principles, premium materials, proper ventilation, heat that purifies, and a commitment to bringing meaning to your daily wellness routine.
Sauna: a heated wooden room where hot stones create dry heat and gentle steam for relaxation and health.
By following age-old nordic principles, you can get the full benefits of your suana- making it a part of your health routine for years to come.
Over 85% of homes in Finland have saunas, and throughout the hundreds of years that Finns and other Nordic countries have built saunas- they’ve developed design principles that will help you get the most out of your sauna. Our unique understanding of these principles and Nordic culture enables you to trust your sauna to give you real (physical and mental) results.
Authentic Nordic Sauna vs Common American Sauna
A quick look at the key design choices that shape the sauna experience, and how our saunas create a revitalizing experience you’ll be craving week after week for years to come. (instead of dropping the habit after a few months of consistency)
Heat Distribution
High thermal-mass stones create even, enveloping heat rather than sharp, uncomfortable hot spots. No noticeable direct or harsh heat from the heater or wall!
Steam (Löyly)
Loyly is the steam produced when water is thrown to the hot stones of the heater. You’ll be enveloped evenly with gentle yet intense steam that follows the convective loop, and descends down from the ceiling.
Ventilation & Airflow
Deliberate airflow schematics - with scientific design choices for air intake and venting result in continuous fresh air to breath - without having to worry about things such as high CO2, VOC’s, pathogens, carcinogens or odors. Proper airflow and other design considerations avoid all bacteria, fungi, mold or other harmful elements.
Materials & Bench Design
Non-toxic softwoods, proper ceiling heights and traditional bench heights support proper thermal cycling and comfort. When your feet are above the stones you will experience full body encompassing heat and you will avoid the dreaded “cold toes” effect.
Purpose & Experience
Sauna is so much more than something to “suffer through” in the name of health. (although the health benefits are numerous!) Sauna can be a ritual you look forward to and enjoy often for your lifetime. It can be an invigorating, enlightening, meditative, or even social experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
A Nordic (traditional Finnish-style) sauna uses hot air (heated by stones) to raise your core body temperature. This creates a full-body heat response: sweating, increased circulation, cardiovascular stimulation, and nervous system regulation.
Infrared saunas, by contrast, use radiant panels to warm the body directly at much lower air temperatures. Some people enjoy them, but the experience and physiological response are very different.
At Nordmann, we build true Nordic saunas because research and centuries of use show that high heat + proper airflow unlocks the deepest wellness benefits—both physical and mental. If you’re looking for the real sauna experience found across Scandinavia, this is it.
-
A traditional Nordic sauna is both dry and wet - by choice.
Most of the time, the sauna is dry heat. But when water is poured over the hot stones (a practice called löyly), it creates a brief burst of steam that increases humidity and intensifies the heat sensation.
This balance is essential. The ability to add steam when desired is what makes a sauna dynamic, comfortable, and deeply therapeutic.
Our saunas are designed for proper steam use, unlike many modern “dry-only” builds that avoid water due to poor construction or ventilation.
-
Authenticity isn’t about aesthetics—it’s about how the sauna works.
A true Nordic sauna is defined by:
Properly sized heater and stone mass
High operating temperatures (typically 170–220°F)
Correct ventilation for fresh oxygen and comfortable breathing
Safe use of water on stones
Natural, breathable materials
Bench heights that place bathers in the hottest, cleanest air
At Nordmann Sauna, we follow traditional Nordic design principles, not shortcuts. The result is a sauna that feels better, breathes better, and delivers the benefits people expect when they think of “real sauna.”
-
Nordmann saunas are designed to operate in the traditional Nordic range of 170–220°F.
This matters because many of sauna’s proven benefits—improved circulation, cardiovascular conditioning, heat shock proteins, deep relaxation—only occur when the body reaches a sufficient thermal load.
Lower-temperature environments may feel warm, but they don’t produce the same full-body response. Proper heat, paired with good airflow, allows you to stay comfortable while still achieving meaningful results.
-
For most healthy adults, regular sauna use - even daily - is both safe and beneficial.
In Nordic cultures, sauna is part of everyday life. Many people use it 3–7 times per week as a form of recovery, stress relief, and mental reset.
There are many different sauna protocols - and we can give tips based on your wellness goals.
We always recommend:
Listening to your body
Staying hydrated
Keeping sessions reasonable (typically 10–20 minutes at a time)
Sauna should feel restorative, not forced.
